Sported has published its new four-year strategy which is founded on the “incredibly valuable” insight provided by its network of 2500 community groups across the UK.

The strategy, entitled ‘Reach. Include. Empower’, covers the period 2021 to 2025 and in doing so acknowledges a shift from the organisation to work towards longer-term objectives, which include:

  • improving mental health and physical wellbeing
  • tackling inequalities both in sport and through sport
  • connecting community sports groups for collective action

The objectives are based on insight gathered from group leaders within Sported’s network, who have highlighted how the Covid-19 pandemic has shifted their focus, and detailed what support they will need from the charity.

Sported strategy 21-25

Sported’s mission is to support these local groups; it has pledged to:

  • help them to recover and rebuild from Covid-19
  • develop their group leaders
  • engage and grow its own network
  • listen to and represent the groups
  • build local connections

The charity says its stated purpose: ‘Helping community groups survive, to help young people thrive’ has never been so pertinent.

A central component of Sported’s work will remain its long-standing commitment to support the passionate, dedicated local people who are running vital community sports groups across the UK.

Nicola Walker, CEO of Sported, said: “Our new strategy recognises the need to work to a longer-term plan, in order to bring about real change – change in sport and through sport.

“Sported uses insight from across its network of community groups to inform and guide the direction it takes. This insight has been incredibly valuable in supporting groups to ride out the wave of the last turbulent year.

“Our new, longer-term strategy will see us rebuild and recover from Covid-19, supporting our groups and growing our network, with a focus on improving mental and physical health, tackling inequalities and connecting community sports groups.”
